Further product information
Lansinoh® nipple shields can be an effective aid for short-term use to overcome latching difficulties. These can occur, for example, with flat, inverted, or retracted nipples, a strong let-down reflex, or a short frenulum (tongue-tie and/or lip-tie) in the baby. Nipple shields can also help premature, sick, or weak newborns learn to breastfeed. The specially designed tip of the Lansinoh® nipple shield helps the infant to get a particularly good grip on the shield with their lips.
The shape of Lansinoh® nipple shields promotes maximum skin-to-skin contact between mother and baby. They are exceptionally thin, very soft and flexible, and offer an extremely comfortable feel.
Lansinoh® nipple shields are available in two sizes – size 1 (20 mm) and size 2 (24 mm) including a practical transport box for hygienic storage.
This is how to put on the nipple shields:
1. First, wash your hands. Then, lift the sides of the nipple shield to ensure a better fit.
2. Replace the sides and make sure the nipple shield is completely in place.
3. Hold your baby close to you with their mouth wide open and their chin touching your breast. Make sure their tongue is down and then guide them to your nipple so they can latch on properly.
4. The tip of the nipple shield should lie between the soft and hard palate. The nose is clear and the chin moves due to the swallowing motion.
Pro tip: Put a little milk on the tip of the nipple shield to encourage your baby to latch on.
Please note: The causes of breastfeeding problems should be assessed by a lactation consultant in the early stages. Nipple shields should only be used on the recommendation and under the guidance of a midwife or lactation consultant.
