Effective care for sore nipples: The power of moist wound healing
In general, moist wound healing is recommended for treating nipple injuries. The aim is to maintain or restore the skin's natural moisture. Moist wound healing is achieved by applying a semi-permeable layer to the injured skin. This helps retain moisture within the cells, preventing scab formation. In this way, the skin's ability to regenerate is supported. The results of an independent study on highly purified HPA® lanolin , which examined the application of lanolin to nipples, can be found here: Dr. Michael Abou-Dakn, Painful and sore nipples: Are there evidence-based treatment recommendations? - A little lanolin can also be applied to the nursing pad.
- The best care is achieved when the nipple is covered with lanolin cream at all times between breastfeeding sessions.
